Expert tipster James Van de Maat has touted Friday night’s Geelong Cup favourite Dalgetty as the next Black Magic Opal.
“He’s a flying machine who has popped out of nowhere. A couple of months no one had heard of him but now he is announcing himself as a real hot sprinter.”
Dalgetty has won nine of his 14 starts and was easily the fastest Geelong Cup heat winner in 25.31sec.
“He reminds me of Black Magic Opal, who won the (2013) Geelong Cup and backed it up with a Melbourne Cup win for trainer Jason Thompson, who puts the polish on Dalgetty.”
Van de Maat also believes the Geoff Howell-trained Cut Loose Max can figure prominently on Friday night.
“Cut Loose Max was purchased for just over $5,000 at the Ready 2 Race Auction series a year ago. He has won a Prelude of the Melbourne Cup, he’s in the Geelong Cup. It’s such a great story.”
