Womann’s Tammy Baxter The One To Back

Geelong Greyhounds are playing host to their annual Cannonball Sprint Final set to run over the 400 metre distance.

The Friday night feature will see Tina Womann’s Tammy Baxter vie for her fourth consecutive victory.

The daughter of Bit Chili – Kim Baxter jumped from box two in the fourth Cannonball Sprint Heat run last Friday night.

Tammy Baxter recorded the fastest first split time of 8.32 seconds in the heats that respectively earned her the lead and an easy victory by 4.50 lengths over Call Me Hank (Box six).

Tammy Baxter drew box seven in the 2015 Cannonball Sprint Final, a distinct change from her advantageous inside box in the heats.

“I think she is a lot better suited on the inside of the track but saying that I don’t believe the outside box draw will worry her too much because of her early speed.” Trainer Tina Womann explained.

Tammy Baxter has hit fantastic form in her last eight races, recording six wins and two seconds at a range of tracks including Shepparton, Ballarat, Warragul and Geelong.

The 26 kilo bitch has made her mark on short course racing thanks to her early speed and will to chase.

“When we first got her she would pull up exhausted even after the shorts. It’s the kind of bitch she is, she gives 110% and that’s all you can ask for.”

Womann placed her speedy bitch over the 515 at Sandown Park 10 starts ago which saw Tammy Baxter lead the field but tire towards the end of the race.

“We tried her over more distance for her owner but she didn’t seem to cope with it very well. As soon as she stepped back in distance she found her form again.”

Tammy Baxter’s record has seen her on the racetrack 35 times for 17 wins and five minor placing’s with her total prize money reaching $26,345.

Womann and partner Dennis Trewin will be hoping for an additional birthday gift in a victory from their tenacious chaser after a short vacation during the week for Dennis’ birthday.

The 2015 Geelong Cannonball Sprint is race six on the cards and is set to jump at 8.48pm Victorian time.
