Just Push On proved that pushing on was the right decision for trainer Shaun Coulson after three and a half months on the sidelines and a win at Geelong on Monday night.
A dropped back muscle in July last year left Coulson questioning the return of his chaser. But patience was the key as Just Push On recorded his second win since his return to the racetrack, switching between Warragul and Geelong’s 400 metre distances.
“He did his back muscle at Geelong, the next day it was fully dropped and very bruised. I didn’t know what to think of it after he pulled up so I sent him back home to recover in a paddock and go from there.” Trainer Shaun Coulson explained.
After Just Push On’s time in the paddock he returned to Coulson’s care, with the all clear from the checker he was back working then trialing.
“He trialed good a few times which gave me a good indication that he was ready to race again.”
The son of Dyna Lachlan – Shell Belle has had 29 starts for four wins and 12 minor placing’s.
Lovingly named Bash, Just Push On’s return win six starts in at Warragul proved to be a big surprise recording a best of the day time of 22.78 from box five.
“His win at Warragul was such a shock, he came out alright and ran a pretty quick time.”
“I have to do a lot of work with him in between starts which is mainly massaging him.”
All the hard work has paid off for the coincidentally named Just Push On, it’s not just a win on the board for Coulson but a win for time that has been put into Bash.
Bash lines up today in race 12 at Warragul from box seven at 3.38pm.
“He isn’t a bad dog when he puts his mind to it like he did on Monday, all we can do is hope for the best.”
