The Geelong Greyhound Racing Club yesterday unanimously resolved to remove Graeme Bate’s name from its inside track.
The decision follows his removal from the Greyhound Racing Victoria (GRV) Hall Of Fame after his disqualification for deliberately administering a prohibited substance.
“The Board acknowledges that Graeme Bate has been a significant contributor to our Club including a number of years service on our Board. However the Club wholeheartedly supports GRV’s position on drug use in our sport and allowing Graeme Bate’s name to remain associated with the inside track sends the wrong message to the broader community,” Geelong Greyhound Club General Manager Doug Cross said.
“We look forward to announcing the new name of the track in due course.”
