On Friday Night Kristy Harris, Geelongs Champion Female boxer held her Commonwealth Games fundraiser at The Beckley Centre. A costly exercise to attend the games The Beckley Centre helped Kristy in acheiveing her dream.
Kristy began boxing in her early teens, as time passed by her “fun” activity turned more serious. Kristy began training three times per week with her dad.In April 2011 Kristy competed her first fight, she won. Since having her first fight Kristy has now competed in 20 or more fights with her latest acheivement bringing home the Australian Boxing Title in the Fly Weight Division. Along with her National Title she has now become the highest ranking international female boxer in Australia.
This year is the first time Womens Boxing will be contested at the games and our local girl Kristy has made the team. The Australian boxing team consists of: Kristy Harris (51kg), Shelley Watts (60kg), Kaye Scott (75kg), Andrew Maloney (52kg), Jackson Woods (56kg), Nick Cooney (60kg), Daniel Lewis (69kg), Mark Lucas (75kg), Jordan Samardali (81kg), Jai Opetaia (91kg), Joseph Goodall (91+kg).
The games are held in Glasgow in Scotland with Day 1 begining on July 23rd.
