Good Friday Appeal at Beckley Park 2009

Around 5000 people ventured to Geelong's Beckley Park on Good Friday to enjoy a family fun day to help raise money for a great cause.

For the third successive year the greyhound track played host to the Geelong arm of the Good Friday Appeal,with the Geelong community raising $238,000 to the Royal Children's Hospital Fundraiser.

The crowd on course included Geelong Footballers Andrew mackie,Jeremy Laidler and Cameron Ling and Supercats and South Dragons basketballer Nathan Herbert was huge compared tp previous years and the initiaitive to run Good Friday market as well as the regular Saturday Market was an outstanding success.

Those in attendance donated gold coins upon entry ,with many being exposed to greyhounds for the first timeby way of a stall comprising  of Greyhounds from the Greyhound Adoption Program.

The main race the Chase for Charity was won by Ben 10 who was sponsored by Tabcorp and trained by Anglela Langton.

2008 Geelong Australia Gold Cup 457m Group 2 

Young up and rising star greyhound Birthday Boy  blew everyone else's candles out when he won the $40,000 Geelong Australia Gold Cup at Geelong's Beckley Park on October 17th,2008.Trained at Camperdown by Stephen Elsum and owned by Camperdown daiy farmer Cliff Justin ,Birthday Boy showed exceptional field sense to win shown  in the smart time of 25:39 to win from the Graeme Bate trained Taipan Bale and Show Bags trained by Alison Chisholm.

The Geelong Australia Gold Cup has now been testing ground for up and coming greyhounds and it is hoped that Birthday Boy will fulfill that ambition.
