Matt’s Entity Among Big Names in Cannonball

HEATS of the Cannonball Sprint are set to highlight what will be a dynamic evening of racing at Geelong tonight, which will draw the curtain on a fantastic week of racing around Western Victoria.

The punting kicks off in race four, which is coincidentally the first heat of the night – and it will be a battle of early pace between Governor Bale (4) and Matt’s Entity (8). It’s a tough one to weigh up – Governor Bale scored in a blistering 21.98sec over the 390 metres at Ballarat last week, but Matt’s Entity is racing in ultra-consistent form and the outside draw may just give him the ascendency here. His classy triumph at Horsham last week demonstrated that the four year old can still mix it with the best of them (Replay).
Governor Bale is definitely one to keep safe though – and at $5.00 he’s definitely worth an each way punt at the very least.

Coming off the back of heavy interference at Warrnambool, Ultima Bale will be looking to return to career best form with a win here – following up on his commanding 24.96sec victory at Ballarat over the 450 metres a fortnight ago (Replay). This greyhound has pace to burn – and the inside draw should provide him with the necessary leverage to score. It’s hard to tip against Duomo Bale (3) after his win at Horsham last week, but Ultima has enough about him here if he is to jump well.

Like many others, I couldn’t look past Zoltina’s Prize (1) last week when he recorded his fourth straight victory at Ballarat in a blistering 21.97sec over the 390 metres (Replay) – and I’m backing him again here tonight. Tammy Baxter, who is set to jump from box two, will challenge – but Zoltina’s Prize has the goods to get the job done. He’s shown himself to be a talented chaser over the shorter course, and I think he will only get better with experience.

Best of luck tonight and I hope you pick a winner or three!
